As regards the penalty, both the trial court and the appellate court correctly sentenced appellant to reclusion perpetua without eligibility for parole. Both courts also properly awarded the heirs of "AAA" the amounts of P100,000.00 as civil indemnity, P75,000.00 as moral damages, P25,000.00 as temperate damages, and P50,000.00 as exemplary damages.[18] However, all damages awarded shall earn interest at the rate of 6% per annum from the date of finality of this judgment until fully paid in line with prevailing jurisprudence.
