BELLOSILLO, J.
In Macabingkil v. People's Homesite and Development Corporation[58] we held that a collateral attack is proper against a challenged judgment which is void upon its face or where the nullity of the judgment is apparent by virtue of its own recitals.  The nullity must be shown from the averments of the questioned decision or the documents in the record itself, and not upon mere errors of judgment but on the ground that the court had no power or authority to grant the relief or no jurisdiction over the subject matter or the parties or both.[59] A proceeding for contempt of court is an appropriate collateral vehicle for declaring a judgment void, provided that the aforementioned requisites for such action are present.[60]
