Since neither aggravating nor mitigating circumstances attended the commission of the felony, the RTC properly imposed the penalty of reclusion perpetua, together with the accessory penalty provided by law. The Court of Appeals also correctly modified the amount of the award of exemplary damages in conformity with prevailing jurisprudence.[23] Finally, all damages awarded shall earn interest at the rate of 6% per annum from date of finality of this judgment until fully paid.[24]
