Nevertheless, even if appellant's warrantless arrest were proven to be indeed invalid, such a scenario would still not provide salvation to appellant's cause because jurisprudence also instructs us that the illegal arrest of an accused is not sufficient cause for setting aside a valid judgment rendered upon a sufficient complaint after a trial free from error.[17]

Indeed, in the more recent case of People v. Trestiza,[55] the Court pronounced that "[t]he fatal flaw of an invalid warrantless arrest becomes moot in view of a credible eyewitness account."

While we affirm the CA's factual findings and the imprisonment imposed, we find it necessary to award the victim P50,000.00 as civil indemnity and P50,000.00 as moral damages, in line with prevailing jurisprudence.[7] We also award the victim P30,000.00 as exemplary damages to set an example for the public good.[8]

We find it necessary to modify the appellant's civil liability. In line with prevailing jurisprudence,[8]  the appellant is also liable for P75,000.00 as civil indemnity which is awarded if the crime warrants the imposition of the death penalty; P75,000.00 as moral damages because the victim is assumed to have suffered moral injuries, without need of proof; and P30,000.00 as exemplary damages to set an example for the public good, for each count of kidnapping and serious illegal detention.
